Legal Mumbo Jumbo During Service

This is general in Nature

For your wedding to be official there are certain things I must do during the services these will not be altered, as I will not risk my registration but ultimately it means that your Wedding could be void.

Firstly I must Identify both the Couple and Myself to the gathering using Everyone’s full names as which they will be on all the documents.

Secondly I must read the Monitum (Latin for Warning)

Which states:

The ‘Monitum’ - Section 46 (1) Marriage Act 1961

The Marriage Act requires the following statement; know as the “Monitum”, to be said prior to the marriage vows:

“I am duly authorized by law to solemnize marriage according to law.

“Before you are joined in marriage in my presence and in the presence of these witnesses, I am to remind you of the solemn and binding nature of the relationship into which you are now about to enter.

“Marriage, according to law in Australia, is the union of two people to the exclusion of all others, voluntarily entered into for life"

Please do not ask me to change or remove this as refusal may offend

Next section is the Vows these are again a requirement from the act these are the minimum words that must be said we can add to these but not subtract

Section 45 (2)

Where a marriage is solemnised by or in the presence of an authorised celebrant, not being a minister of religion, it is sufficient if each of the parties says to the other, in the presence of the authorised celebrant and the witnesses, the words:

“I call upon the persons here present to witness that I, A.B. (orC.D.), take thee, C.D. (orA.B.), to be

My lawful wedded wife (or husband)”;

After all these sections have been fulfilled I will pronounce you Man and Wife or words to that effect

We then need to sign all 3 Marriage certificates the official one which I will lodge with BDM a Copy that I Will keep and your Copy

Once we have completed these documents I will then present the couple to Family and Friends in you desired manner i.e. I would like to present to you for the first time Mr and Mrs Joe Blogs etc.
